Aachen WEG 2006
The 2006 World Equestrian Games were held in Aachen, German.
Zara Phillips (now Tindall) was crowned world eventing champion with Toytown and led the British team to silver behind Germany. There were no medals for Britain in the dressage or showjumping.
Aachen WEG 2006 was the moment when Blue Hors Matine burst on the international stage ridden by 28-year-old Andreas Helgstrand. They won individual bronze in the grand prix special and silver in the freestyle. Germany’s Isabell Werth took the grand prix special gold and the Netherlands’ Anky van Grunsven took gold in the freestyle.
Jos Lansink was crowned individual world jumping champion, while the Netherlands secured team gold.
Germany topped the medal table at the 2006 World Equestrian Games winning 11 medals in total, six of which were gold.
Aachen was the fifth running of the FEI World Equestrian Games, which brought together all of the FEI disciplines’ world championships into one international celebration of equestrian sport over a two-week period every four years between 1990 and 2018.
