Sam Barr still in the saddle, aged 87

  • Renowned breeder and horseman Sam Barr last week celebrated his 87th birthday with a ride on Welton Envoy.

Welton Envoy — who won Rolex Kentucky three-day event with Blyth Tait in 2000 — is now 20 years old. The bay, bred by Sam, now helps Pammy Hutton to teach dressage to students at The Talland School of Equitation in Gloucestershire.

Mr Barr told H&H that the bay was one of his “favourites”, who “still shows a surprisingly huge zest for life”.
