A driving enthusiast from Cleveland is appealing for the return of her marathon carriage stolen from a field near the A174
The owner of a marathon carriage, stolen from her field along the A174, near Saltburn in Cleveland is appealing for its return.
The four-wheel carriage, which is dark green with dark varnished wood, was taken some time between 6pm on Sunday, 13 October and 6.30am the following morning.
Andrea Bielby regularly competes in driving trials and the carriage was usually stored at her home a mile away in Brotton.
“We don’t usually leave it at the stables,” explains Andrea’s mother, Shirley. “It was securely chained and we honestly didn’t think anyone would be interested in it.”
The carriage is described as being around six or seven years old and would have required several people to help remove it and load it into a vehicle. There were two sets of tyre tracks left behind at the scene and evidence that the thieves had used an adjacent straw field for access.
“The carriage is instantly recognisable to people in the driving world,” says Shirley. “and we believe that it is heading for a sale inthe Northumberland area.”
