The Byways and Bridleways Trust (BBT) is fighting a bill in the House of Lords to allow drivers of “self-balancing electric personal vehicles” to drive on pavements, footpaths, bridleways and restricted byways without a driving licence or insurance.
The BBT is concerned that use by these vehicles, also known as Segways, could be dangerous for riders and other pathway users.
It urges concerned riders to write to their MPs, asking that the bill is referred to the Rights of Way Review Committee.
But the author of the bill, Lord McColl, dismissed the concerns: “These Segways are for disabled people. They are not high speed,” he told H&H.
