What is Lunar New Year and why is it celebrated?
Lunar New Year, also known as Chinese New Year, is a period of time when many East Asian cultures spend time resting and feasting with family, honouring ancestors and giving and receiving gifts that symbolise luck and prosperity. It also celebrates the arrival of spring and the beginning of a new year on the lunisolar calendar.
It is the most important holiday in China. The celebration which lasts for 15 days, marks the beginning of the new lunar year, which falls on February 17 this year.
What does Year of the Horse mean?
The horse, according to Chinese culture, is expected to be a period of heightened energy, quick decision-making, and travel, as the horse itself embodies independence, speed, and intelligence. Since this year’s horse is linked to the intense fire element, it introduces qualities of urgency, passion, and strong intensity.
While this combination can be highly motivating, it also brings a demanding pace. With life accelerating and the drive to achieve becoming stronger, it is vital to monitor your physical limits and energy reserves.
