Oscar Williams
H&H dressage and sport horse editor
Oscar joined Horse & Hound in October 2023 as our dressage and sport horse editor, combining his deep-rooted passion for horses with a love of storytelling
Raised in Lancashire, Oscar started riding aged 12 and has never looked back. A keen member of the Lancaster & District branch of the Pony Club, Oscar learnt to ride on a string of hand-me-down ponies. He soon convinced his parents to get him his own horse – a wholly unsuitable, but very much loved Welsh section C called Crossfield Bethan.
Oscar went on to complete an equine science course at Myerscough College and, unable to see a stride, took up dressage. Growing to love the sport and inspired by the London 2012 Olympics, Oscar worked for Emile Faurie for four years after leaving college. Under his tutelage, Oscar competed at the 2015 National Dressage Championships and travelled with Emile’s horses to CDIs at Aachen, Vidauban, Saumur and Achlieiten.
Oscar holds a master’s degree in Literature from York St John University (2021), merging his love of storytelling with his equestrian background. His favourite event is the London International Horse Show, and his ultimate pinch-me moment? Being paired to ride with Charlotte Dujardin in a five-year-old class – in what was his first-ever competition.
Passionate about making equestrian sport more inclusive and accessible, Oscar now lives in Cumbria with his two boisterous spaniels, Miffy and Dougal.
