British Horse Society (BHS) Scotland has drawn up a list of action points to press the next government to make Scotland a better place for the horse.
BHS Scotland’s “Manifesto for the Horse” is a wish list for increasing standards in training and education, safety, access, tourism and welfare. It has been drawn up for the third Scottish Parliamentary elections that take place this May.
BHS Scotland development officer Helene Mauchlen said: “We’ve had some good results lobbying parliament, and want to achieve more success in the future. We had politicians from all three parties attend the launch of the manifesto on Wednesday, and they were all asking genuinely interested questions.”
BHS Scotland estimates there are more than 100,000 horses in Scotland, and that the industry represents more than £216million to the country’s economy.
